Nigeria’s Under-17 women team, the Flamingos, has become the latest country to qualify for the fifth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, after they beat hosts, South Africa, 1-0 at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa yesterday.

Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade, who netted four in the Nigerians’ 6-0 win in the first leg in Abuja, made good again after the half-hour in the return, shooting aggregate scoreline to 7-0.

The Bantwana had no way whatsoever back into the fixture, and must have been grateful for the low scoreline outside Johannesburg as the Flamingos missed a hatful of chances.

Ajibade’s goal was her eighth in four qualifying matches, having netted three in both legs in the 9-0 whiplash of Namibia.

The fifth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in Jordan between September 30th and 21st October this year. Nigeria has never failed to qualify for the finals since the competition was launched in 2008.
