THE Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Ayodeji Tinubu, has said the problem posed by age cheats will continue as long as those saddled with the age grade competitions neglect grassroots football competitions such as the GTBank Principal Cup.

Speaking at the unveiling of GTBank Lagos State Principal Cup Season Seven held at the Teslim Balogun, Tinubu, who was chairman of occasion, said: “Seven years of sponsoring Principal Cup in Lagos is a remarkable achievement.

But I want to warn that age-related fraud would continue until those in charge of age-grade competitions started looking into grassroots football events such as the GTBank sponsored-Principal Cup. In the next 10 years, we assume that these children should be popular in the football circle.”

For their efforts in the Season Six of the Principal Cup, cheques, raging from N200, 000 to N1 million were presented to schools that came fourth, third, second and first in both the boys and girls’ categories.

Birrel Boys High School and Ikotun Girls emerged champions of the competition.
