She so became a thorn in the flesh of their opponents that her efforts paid off when she netted the winning goal that gave her team the victory. She revealed that her dream was to help her school win the Cup and go on to wear the national colours.

“It was a good game and I enjoyed myself and gave a good account of myself by scoring the one and only winning goal for my school team,” she said.

“I feel so great and that’s why I am dancing. Having helped my school, Epetedo Girls Grammar School, to top my district, the task ahead is to strive to help them again win the female trophy and one day wear the national colours and represent the country in an international championship.”

Also, the duo of Kelechi Onuoha and Chika Ahamefula of Ikotun Senior High School believe they have the wherewithal to dominate the championship. After conquering their arch-rival Girls Senior High School, Agege in the District One final, the Alimosho-based girls said they fear no foes.

“Having overcome the Agege team, I don’t think we will face any other tough challenge in this competition,” Onuoha boasted. “Though we are yet to know our opponents for the next stage of the championship, we are sure we will not disappoint our fans when the knock-out stage begins next year. We made it to the semi-final stage last year and hope to go far this year.”

For goalkeeper Ahamefula, becoming the best goalkeeper and helping her side to lift the trophy remain her priority: “I am aiming to man the post very well for my team and my personal target is to become the best goalkeeper in this year’s tournament,” she said. “We are hoping that we will lift the trophy come 2010.”
