After falling to a late goal in the first leg of their 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Super Eagles in Uyo on Friday, players and officials of Libya’s Mediterranean Knights vowed to give the Nigerians a full dose of the ‘bad treatment’ they got in Nigeria.
The Mediterranean Knights led by Coach Nasser Al-Hadiri were on the verge of securing a draw at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Friday, before the Eagles struck in the 86th minutes through Oluwafisayo Dele-Bashiru, whose shot outside the box rattled the Libyan goalkeeper who had prevented Nigeria from converting the several chances that came their way earlier.
The lone goal took the Super Eagles to seven points in Group D, while Libya remain at the bottom with just one point from three matches.
With the battle in Uyo now over, the Mediterranean Knights says they will put everything into the return leg on Tuesday in Tripoli to revive their qualification for Morocco 2025 AFCON.
Some of the players were said to have vowed that they will give Nigeria a dose of the treatment they got in the country.
Libya’s captain, Faisal Al-Badri, had alleged poor treatment by Nigerians in Uyo saying “We faced a road full of checkpoints and parking lots, took non-main roads, entered forests, and returned to unpaved roads in complete darkness. Though the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) quickly denied it.
