NATIONAL Sports Commission’s (NSC) Director General, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has praised the resilience and determination of the Golden Eaglets, which got the team victory and qualification for this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The Emmanuel Amunike coached Eaglets spanked Zambia 3-1 to qualify for the semifinal of the ongoing African U-17 Championship in Niger Republic, which also gave them one of the tickets reserved for Africa in the U-17 World Cup.

The NSC boss also praised the national U- 23 team, led by Coach Samson Siasia, which also on Saturday went to Gabon and defeated the home team 4-1 to brighten Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for this year’s All African Games.

“We are happy to hear the news of the victories recorded by the Golden Eaglets and the Dream Team VI in Niger and Gabon respectively.

I am happier that the Eaglets by their qualification for the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa U-17 Championship have also booked their place in the finals of the world cup.

“These results have further proved the positive effect of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in sports and the National Sports Commission will continue to do everything within our capability to ensure Nigeria continues to be a force to reckon with in Africa and world football and in other sports too.

“We want the Golden Eaglets not to relent in their efforts and continue to work harder to win the African Championship and go to the world cup as Africa Champion.

“I am also charging the Dream Team VI to continue the way they have started and win the qualification ticket for the All Africa Games for the country. You know that Nigeria did not qualify for the last edition. So it will be great news for us to win the qualification ticket this time around. I say kudos to the Golden Eaglets and the Dream Team VI for making Nigeria proud on Saturday,” he said.
