Enyimba beats Buffles du Borgu, gets North African opponent
Dolphins, Pillars also, as Wolves get Ethiopian foes
ENYIMBA Sunday in Cotonou, Benin Republic, completed a 4-0 defeat of Buffles du Borgu in their CAF Champions League tie, which they began a fortnight ago in Aba.
Enyimba won the first leg of the tie 3-0 in Aba and completed the job Sunday through substitute Andrew Abalogu’s 51st minute strike.
The Benin Republic side, which adopted rough tactics to check Enyimba, was reduced to 10 men when Allowakinnou Simplice was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Enyimba’s reward for beating Buffles du Borgu is a second round tie with Egypt’s Smouha FC.
Nigeria’s other representatives in the Champions League, Kano Pillars, will meet FC Moghreb Tetouan of Morocco in the next round of the competition.
Pillars defeated Al Malakia of South Sudan 3-0 in Kano on Saturday to gain a 5-0 aggregate win, while Moghreb edged C.O.B. of Mali 3-2 on aggregate to be eligible.
In the Confederation Cup, Dolphins of Port Harcourt, who had to endure a penalty shoot-out win over Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea, after both teams were tied 1-1 on aggregate, will take on Club Africain of Tunisia, with the first leg in Tunis on March 13.
Warri Wolves, who hammered Racing Club Bobo-Dioulasso of Burkina Faso 4-0 on aggregate, will play Dedebit of Ethiopia.
To get to the second round, Dedebit defeated Seychelles’ Cote d’Or 5-2 on aggregate. Dedebit won the first leg in Seychelles 3-2 and the return leg 2-0 at home.
