NFF to screen Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles on age declaration

Siasia picks 21 for Tunisia, 35 For Super Six

TO forestall any form of manipulation of age by players, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has set machineries in motion to look at the age declaration given by members of the U-17 team (Golden Eaglets) as well as the U-20 team (Flying Eagles) ahead the African championships in Niger Republic and Senegal.

  NFF Secretary General, Musa Ahmadu, said in a chat with The Guardian Wednesday that the present board would monitor players’ eligibility before allowing them fly the nation’s flag in the Cadet championships, noting that the board would use both the U-17 and U-20 to fish out talents that will be groomed into the Super Eagles.

  Ahmadu added that the Magnetic Resonance Imaging test (MRI) carried out to determine the actual age of Golden Eaglets players in 2013 would also be used for the present team. 

  He affirmed that the cadet teams would be given the best of preparations for the African championships. 

  Meanwhile, Coach of the U-23 men’s team, Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia, has selected 21 players who will tackle the Tunisia U-23 men’s team in a two legged encounter in Tunis and also 32 players who will take part in the forth coming Super 6 pre-season tournament this weekend in Abuja.

  Speaking before releasing the list yesterday, Siasia said the players were selected based on their performance, adding that both teams are one.

  The 36-man delegation to Tunisia is expected to depart Abuja Thursday via Emirates Airline.
