NPFL fines 3SC N5m, shuts down Lekan Salami Stadium

The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) hammer came down heavily on Shooting Stars Sporting Club (3SC) of Ibadan after the country’s premier league governing body slammed a total of N5 million fine on the Oluyole Warriors for bringing the game to disrepute.

The board rose from its emergency meeting on Thursday morning with different sanctions meted out to 3SC on three counts over security breach after Ikorodu City FC held their host to a goalless draw on Sunday.

An eyewitness account revealed that it took the timely intervention of Nigerian military operatives to calm the frayed nerves of 3SC supporters who carried out the wanton destruction of Ikorodu City FC’s official bus after the visitors were locked inside the stadium.

The league body imposed a N1 million fine on the Oluyole Warriors for each charge and ordered an additional N2 million to be paid as damage cost to the Ikorodu City bus.

The NPFL board also sanctioned the immediate closure of Lekan Salami Stadium to fans for the rest of the season.

“3SC was found guilty of all three counts for failure to provide adequate security, failure to ensure proper conduct of their supporters resulting in an attack on the opponents and throwing of objects onto the field of play and the referees,” NPFL said in a statement
