Okon begs NFF to begin preparation for Falcons

Hails Oshoala’s Liverpool move

SUPER Falcons’ chief coach, Edwin Okon, is optimistic that he would build a formidable team ahead of the Women World Cup slated for Canada later this year, but he wants the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to give him the nod to commence preparations for the championship.

Okon, who led the senior national team to win the African Women Championship in Namibia last year, told The Guardian yesterday that he was yet to get any formal information from the NFF on the date the Falcons’ camp would open for the World Cup preparation. The Rivers Angels coach added, however, that he was not resting on his oars as the Falcons’ technical crew has been monitoring the activities of the players to be invited to the team.

But he argued that as African champions, the Super Falcons needed to prepare well for the World Cup to avoid being booted out early from the tournament.

‘’I am still waiting for the NFF to open the Falcons camp for the World Cup. The girls need to be in camp now preparing for the championship. All the teams in the Falcons group are training hard to contend with us owing to the fact that the Falcons are African champions. I am pleading to the NFF to open the camp as soon as possible. We need to make Africa proud at the Mundial,’’ he declared.

He also commended Asisat Oshoala for signing for Liverpool FC Female team, saying the move would spur her to get to the peak of her career.
