Promasidor donates 1,000 hockey sticks to LSHA
PROMASIDOR Nigeria Tuesday at the Union Bank Sports Club, Surulere, donated 1,000 hockey sticks to the Lagos State Hockey Association as part of its support to the development of the sport in Nigeria.
The Union Bank Sports Club is the venue of the hockey event of the ongoing IBILE Games for All Secondary Schools in Lagos State.
The 24 schools competing for honours at the competition collected the sticks in a ceremony supervised by the Chairman, Lagos State Hockey Association, Tunde Popoola, who was supported by the state’s Director of Sports, Dr. Kweku Tandoh.
While presenting the hockey equipment to the 24 schools, the Head Legal and Legal Communications of Promasidor, Andrew Enahoro , said the company decided to support hockey because it is like football when you have teams playing and showing some skills.
“The association would still have some more but for now; we have 24 schools that benefitted from this donation. There is a punch line, this is not just a gesture done by Promasidor, it is in alliance with BME Concern Ripples. This is a charity organization registered in the United Kingdom. There will be more to come, that I can assure you.
“The essence of this donation is Promasidor’s way of giving back to the society in the corporate social responsibility and to try to keep the kids away from the streets. What you are seeing today is the first in the series of donations we are going to make; we are still going to the six geopolitical zones of the country.
An elated Chairman of the Lagos state Hockey Association, Popoola, who is also the Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), described Promasidor’s gesture as the best way companies could support sports. “This is where hockey starts at the youth level. No one can complain again, not Lagos, not the players and definitely not the coaches too as they now have the equipment to train the players.
“We have been given 1,000 hockey sticks and some balls, these will go a long way in supporting the development of hockey. We are very grateful to them more so when hockey was almost going into comatose in Lagos. I am lost for words here,” Popoola stated.
