Nigeria has long been a talent factory of the highest level. Yet, you could argue that in recent years they haven’t been up to standards set by the generations before. There are no Nwankwo Kanu’s or Jay-Jay Okocha‘s in the Premier League anymore. That doesn’t mean that there are no valuable players from Nigeria either. PL is the home to some top Nigerian talent, and it could become some more in the future too. For now, let’s focus on those who represent the Super eagles in the UK now.
Eberechi Eze
While Eze was born and raised in England, his parents are of Igbo Nigerian descent. Yes, he also decided to represent the English national team, and fair play to him. Eze started his career at Queens Park ranger before moving to Crystal Palace. His performances for QPR in the Championship were enough for Crystal palace to cash out £17 million for his transfer. A home grown talent, Eze quickly established himself as one of the top performers in the Premier League. Raking up goals and assists season in and season out, in no time he found himself in the north side of London playing for Arsenal. The Gunners paid £60 million for his services, and he’s been integral to Arsenal mounting a title challenge this season. Like we said, he decided to play for England, and so far he has amassed 16 appearances. It is a shame he decided against playing for the Super Eagles, as his flair, creativity, and ability to play on both wings and behind strikers in that No10 role would make him a legend in Nigeria on the level of Okocha and Finidi. Tosin Adarabioyo
Abdul-Nasir Oluwatosin Oluwadoyinsolami Adarabioyo. Now, that’s a name you’re going to remember. The player we know today as Tosin is an English professional footballer of Nigerian descent. Adarabioyo came up through the ranks at Manchester City, before making a name for himself in WBA and Blackburn Rovers. It was Fulham that signed him on a permanent basis, where he attracted the attention of Chelsea after making 119 league appearances for Fulham. He is now a first team regular at Chelsea, being one of their most consistent defenders. In the past he has represented England on various levels, but has yet to make a full senior debut. While in the past he refused to play for the Super Eagles, since 2020 he has left the doors open for a call up from Nigeria. During 2025 there were talks that he is now committed to play for Nigeria, but he wasn’t called up for the team’s AFCON squad, and remains in doubt for the future after the 2026 World Cup for which Nigeria failed to qualify.
Rio Ngumoha
Another top talent developed by England is eligible to play for Nigeria too. Rio Chima Ngumoha is an attacking midfielder who can play on the left wing too. He is contracted to Liverpool after coming through the ranks at Chelsea. He is described as skilful and creative forward, and is seen as one of the most talented footballers of his generation. In the past he has represented England at U15, U16, U17, and U19 levels, showing that he has more than enough quality to be an international player. Yet, we all know just how high the competition is in England at the highest level, leaving the door for his Nigeria debut wide open. While there’s still time for him to grow, and to play for England, we wouldn’t write him off for the Super Eagles just yet.
Michael Kayode
Kayode is a Nigerian footballer with an Italian passport. In the past he has represented Italy on different age levels, yet has still failed to make a senior debut. Touted as one of the top talents in football only a few years ago, Kayode has failed to live up to his hype. The gamers who play Football Managers games expected Kayode to be the next coming of Roberto Carlos, but at the moment Kayode is nowhere near that level. After scoring the winning goal of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, his career has been on the slope. After starting his career at Juventus, Kayode moved to Gozzano before he ended up at Fiorentina. After two years in Florence, he moved to Brantford where he is now a first team regular. With only 21 years of age, there’s still plenty of time for Michael Kayode to grow and fulfil his potential. The same could be said for his international career, where he still hasn’t made a senior debut for Italy. While he still hasn’t shown desire to represent Nigeria, we could see it happening in the future, if he continues missing on Italy call ups.
Calvin Bassey
Bassey is one of the most consistent Nigerian footballers in the PL. He started his youth career at Leicester before making his senior debut for Scottish side Rangers. After a short stint with Ajax, he moved to Fulham, and became a first team regular in London. With 82 league appearances to his name, Calvin Bassey has been one of the most consistent performers in the team since joining in 2023. As far as his international career goes, so far he has made 43 appearances for the Super Eagles since his debut in 2022. He was a part of the team that won third place at the most recent AFCON. At the moment, he has lost his starting position to Jorge Cuenca who replaced him seamlessly during AFCON. While Calvin Bassey will most certainly regain his spot in the Fulham’s lineup, even if he doesn’t there number of suitors for his services will not be lacking, with Serie A giants, Inter, already being interested this past January.
Alex Iwobi
Fulham has a Nigerian backbone. From Bassey at the back, to Alex Iwobi in the middle. The 29 year old Nigerian midfielder is a Premier League legend. Iwobi started his career at Arsenal, where he made over 100 appearances. Consequently he moved to Everton where he added 123 more appearances, before joining his current team, Fulham. At Fulham, Iwobi reinvented himself, and has become one of the most reliable midfielders in the PL. Like many players on this list, Iwobi was both eligible to play for England and Nigeria. He was quick to make up his mind, and since 2015 has made 96 appearances for Super Eagles and scored 10 goals in the process. He is a proud owner of two bronze medals from AFCON.
Samuel Chukwueze
As we said, Fulham indeed has a Nigerian backbone. A defender, a midfielder, and a forward. Chukwueze is only on loan at Fulham but if he keeps on performing as he has, there’s no doubt he will be signed on a permanent basis. So far, on the season, he has scored 3 goals and added 4 assists in 13 appearances. He started his youth career at Future Hope, New Generation Academy, and Diamond Football Academy before being snatched up by Villarreal. After 155 appearances and 21 goals for the Yellow Submarine, Chukwueze signed for AC Milan. In two years he failed to establish himself as a first team regular, and a loan move to Fulham was meant to revive his career. So far, so good for Samuel. Despite only being 26 years old, Chukwueze has already made 56 appearances for the Nigerian national team, scoring 7 goals in the process.
Christantus Uche
Uche is yet to establish himself in the PL, as after 12 appearances he is still to get a goal for Crystal Palace. After going through the ranks at Moralo, Ceuta, and Getafe, the Premier League came calling. The 22 year old forward still hasn’t found his groove in European football, as his numbers need to be better, compared to what he has achieved so far in his career. Yet, he has all the makings of an PL forward, with pace, agility, and stature. His talents have been recognized on the international level too, as he already played 3 games for the Super Eagles. While his PL future remains in doubt, with him not playing as much as expected for Palace, and the manager who brought him in leaving at the end of the season, we are sure this is not the last we’ve heard from Uche.
Ola Aina
Temitayo Olufisayo Olaoluwa “Ola” Aina is one of the best defenders Nottingham Forest has. After starting his career at Chelsea, Aina spent the majority of his early career on loans. His career led him to playing for Hull City and Torino, where he found his permanent home after leaving London. In between his two Torino spells, Aina also played for Fulham before he signed on a permanent basis for Forest. As of now, he has played 65 times for Forest scoring 3 goals. Like many of the players on this list, he was born and raised in England. At youth level he represented the Three Lions at U16, U17, U18, U19, and U20 levels. Yet, a call up for the senior squad never came and Aina decided that he wants to play for Nigeria. In 2017 his first call up came and since then he has made 48 appearances for Super Eagles.
Tolu Arokodare
Toluwalase Emmanuel Arokodare has had an interesting road to the top. For a player who started his career in Latvia he has come a long way. Arokodare began his career at Valmiera, where he scored 22 goals in 32 appearances. It didn’t take long for teams to notice him, and he spent a year with 1. FC Köln where he failed to score in 10 appearances. He did much better for Amiens where he bagged 14 goals in 14 appearances. His performances in France were enough to secure a transfer to Belgian side Genk where he added 36 more goals in 95 appearances. His move to Wolves wasn’t as successful as expected, as the team is on the brink of relegation. We are sure that he will tear up the Championship, if he’s not loaned out to one of the newly promoted PL teams. Arokodare made his international debut for Nigeria in 2025 and has made 10 appearances since and has scored two goals for the Super Eagles.
Frank Onyeka
While currently selling his trade in the Championship for Coventry City, Frank Onyeka is still contracted to Brentford. He is yet to make his Coventry debut. During his career, Onyeka spent the youth days with Faith Motors FC, and Ebedei, before finding a home in Denmark with Midtjylland. 95 appearances and 14 goals secured him a move to Brentford. At Brentford his numbers dropped, as he only bagged one goal in 75 appearances. Last season he was loaned out to Bundesliga where he appeared in 31 games for FC Augsburg. After only notching up 6 appearances for Brentford this season, he was loaned out to Coventry in a search for more minutes. In any case we will be seeing him in the PL next year as he will return with Coventry if they move up as in that case they have an obligation to buy, or he will be back in red and white of Brentford. In between his stints in Denmark, Nigeria, England, and Germany, Onyeka has become a regular for Nigeria, making 41 appearances since 2020.
While there might be a couple of more Nigerian footballers playing in the English Premier League moving under our radar, the ones on this list are the best ones at the moment representing the Giant of Africa in the EPL. In the future we can see some of their top players moving to the EPL or coming back such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Paul Onuachu, or Raphael Onyedika who are the most often mentioned players when it comes to transfers to the Premier League.
