TWO Nigerian clubs in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup, Warri Wolves and Dolphins of Port Harcourt moved into the next round yesterday by recording home victories against their opponents.
At the Warri City Stadium, Wolves easily dispatched the visiting Racing Bobo FC of Burkina Faso 3-0 in the second leg of their encounter to qualify on 4-0 aggregate. Wolves had won the first leg in Bobo Dioulasso 1-0 two weeks ago.
National U-23 team striker, Oghenekaro Etebo opened scoring in the 31st minute before Osadiaye Joseph increased the tally to two in the 62nd minute. A goal from Omoforman Freedom in the 71st minute dashed the hope of the visitors, who had vowed to turn the heat on Warri Wolves in front of their home fans.
Among those present at the Warri City Stadium yesterday were the President of NFF, Amaju Pinnick, newly elected chairman of Delta FA, former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and coach of Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia.
Warri Wolves will now meet the winner of the game between Cote’Dor of Seychelles and Dedebit of Ethiopia.
It was however a narrow escape for Dolphins in Port Harcourt, as they defeated visiting Vegetarianos FC of Equatorial Guinea 5-3 in a penalty shootout to move on.
Dolphins who lost 0-1 in the first leg in Malabo two weeks ago, won 1-0 yesterday in the Garden City to tie 1-1 on aggregate before scaling through 5-3 in the shootout.
Coach Stanley Eguma made just one change to his starting line up that played in Malabo in the first leg. Chidiebere Okolie who came on as a second half substitute for Ifeanyi Egwim in the first leg, started the game yesterday pushing Isiaka Olawale to the bench.
The coach started the game with the twin attack formation of Christian Pyagbara and Ifeanyi Egwim.
