ONE of Nigeria’s representatives in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup, Warri Wolves, recorded an away victory yesterday, as Abu Azeez 84th minute goal was enough to sink host Racing De Bobo in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

Azzez’s lone strike came off a corner kick by Ibenegbu Ikechukwu. The match was keenly contested, until substitute Azeez struck after replacing Okafor Onyekachi in the 75th minute.

The centre referee, Ibrahim Mamane from Niger Republic had earlier disallowed a goal scored by Ibenegbu Ikechukwu, even though the first linesman did not raise flag.

Wolves departed Bobo Dioulasso immediately after the game.

The team made up of 16 players and eight officials, was airlifted by Ivorian Air Friday morning from Lagos to Ouagadougou, after a stop over in Abidjan.

Those who featured for Wolves in yesterday’s game in Bobo Dioulasso were Okiemute Odah, Onomado Goodluck, Joseph Eyimofe, Osagie Monday, Semiu Liadi, Akpojuvwevwo Bright, Uruemu Egbeta, Ibenegbu, Joseph Osadiaye, Dimgba Stanley and Onyekachi Okafor.

The Club Media Officer, Moses Etu told The Guardian shortly after the match yesterday that it was a hard-earned victory, adding that the home team gave them great challenge.

He said that Wolves decided to fly out of Bobo Dioulasso immediately after the match to Ouagadagou and continue their journey to Nigeria this morning because there would be no flight from the city till Monday evening.

He revealed that Wolves was made to cater for their feeding in accordance with new CAF’s rule, but lamented that the rule was not made known to them before they jetted out of the country on Friday.

The return leg comes up on in the first week of March at the Warri City Stadium.
