A professional cyclist from Ogun State, Agbo Francis, who came second at the 2024 Cycling Lagos, has won the gold medal at the fourth edition of the competition held at the National Stadium, Lagos, at the weekend.
Balogun Abdulazeez from Lagos State took the silver medal, while the bronze went to a promising young athlete, Ibrahim Asiru, also from Lagos.In the women’s professional category, Olawale Peace from Oyo State, who won last year’s amateur race, took the gold medal, while Oyewole Kate, a young cyclist from Lagos, who came third in 2024, moved up to silver, with Oyo State’s Azeez Medinate taking the bronze medal.
Young cyclists also had their moments in the spotlight. In the U-15 boys’ category, Akinola Destiny from Oyo State won gold, Goodluck Emmanuel from Osun State took silver, while Hamzat Keyinde, also from Oyo State, claimed bronze.
In the U-15 girls’ category, Oyo State’s athletes dominated the podium: Azeez Hazanat won gold, Aminu Olamide took silver, and Odebiyi Iqnat earned bronze.
Speaking at the event, the convener of Cycling Lagos and Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, Bamidele Adeleye, congratulated all participants.
He said: “For those who didn’t win a medal, I still celebrate you. Your participation matters, and with more effort on the pedals, you might just be our champion in 2026.”
