A little more than a year ago, 18-year-old Yohanna Zadok was playing on the streets of Kaduna, where he was a member of Ikon Allah Football Academy. But starting from next season, the starry-eyed lad will be strutting his stuff against some of the heroes he admired from afar while still in Nigeria.
This is because Brighton have agreed to sign Zadok from AIK Stockholm in a deal worth £21.5m on a five-year deal, which begins when the summer transfer window opens on June 15.
“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler told the BBC. “Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player who can impact games in the final third.
“He’s still young, and will need time to adapt to the club and Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch, and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy.”
Zadok joined AIK Stockholm from the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria and has five goals and four assists in 18 appearances for the Swedish club since his debut in August 2025.
He is one of the young players Coach Eric Chelle is bedding into the new Super Eagles squad that he is building after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
