Gbajabiamila, Elliot football tourney begins in Surulere

AS part of effort to discover young stars from the Surulere axis of Lagos State, both Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, have organised a development football match for youths in various wards in the local governments.

AS part of effort to discover young stars from the Surulere axis of Lagos State, both Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, have organised a development football match for youths in various wards in the local governments.

The maiden edition of the event kicked off over the weekend at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. Nine wards vie for the event and the winner of the five weeks tournament will go home with N1 million, runners up gets N750, 000, while the third position get N500, 000.

Speaking with The Guardian, Gbajabiamila said the football competition was a means of scouting and training talents from Surulere who could represent Nigeria both in local and international events.

He stated that the event may be expanded to the Senatorial district where different local governments would play against each other, adding that they organised the tournament as a way of bringing everyone together, especially in ‘these days of unemployment.’
Also speaking, Desmond Elliot said the event was basically to encourage cordial relationships among youths in Surulere, adding that the competition is specifically for youths who resides in Surulere.
