Laments several un-refunded ticket funds

Rio 2016 Olympic Games bound Regina George has expressed her gratitude to all, who came to her aid when the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) informed all the athletes that they should purchase their flight tickets to the games.

Following the directive, George set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her participation in the Olympic Games at Rio, Brazil.

However, following the public outcry that trailed the directive and subsequently forced the AFN to rescind the directive, George yesterday thanked her fans for her supporting her quest to participate in her second Olympics.

While soliciting funds from her fans, the London 2012 Olympics semifinalist wrote in her twitter account: “This year it’s been hard financially for me but it wouldn’t have been possible without your support. I (have) just been told that we will have to pay our own way to the Olympics this year. Sadly this is such short notice for me to come up with the money. They also promised a refund, but I’m still waiting for many refunds promised in the past. I’ve been through a lot of obstacles this year and through it all, I made my second Olympic team. I don’t want to stop now after I earned a spot to represent my country in the Olympics. Any donation will help my situation. This will not go unnoticed and I’m truly grateful for my supporters.”

As at the last check, George had received $3,750 from donors out of the $4,000 she was looking for. But with the recent development, she went on twitter on Sunday to thank everybody that responded to her plea.

She said: “Your belief in me and the various ways you have shared my story has quickly led to the most favourable resolution. Because of you, my story and situation went viral in many cities from Nigeria to the U.S and worldwide. Because of you, many of my teammates and I will be able to live the Olympic dreams. Because of you, the Nigerian track and Field Federation has found the money to issue my teammates and I tickets to the Olympics.”

George, who revealed that she had been funding her preparation and qualification bid for the last two years, added that the donation would now help her cover some of the expenses she had incurred during the qualifiers and preparation for the games.
