Golden Eaglets force South Korea to 1-1 draw
Suwon Continental Cup International Youth Football Tournament
NIGERIA’S national U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, yesterday forced their South Korean counterparts to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the Suwon International Tournament, reports AfricanFootball.com.
Recently discovered Funsho Bamgboye drew Nigeria level in the 26th minute after the home team went ahead after just three minutes.
The Eaglets, who are without skipper Kelechi Nwakali, will also face Brazil and Croatia in the invitational tourney aimed at preparing teams for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in October
Defending champions Nigeria are pitched against USA, hosts Chile and Croatia at Chile 2015.
In the absence of Nwakali, the Golden Eaglets were led out by striker, Victor Osimhen, in their first match at the tournament.
Eaglets’ leader, Nwakali, is still being expected in Suwon after he was held back in Nigeria due to visa hitch along with Team Coordinator, Prince Udofia but Osimhen would undoubtedly be a worthy replacement.
The Golden Eaglets have been training at one of the practice pitches of the Gyeonggi 2002 World Cup Stadium and also at the Suwon World Cup Stadium, where yesterday’s match against Korea was played.
