Green Giants captain, Adebisi Olatilewa Adetoro, has revealed the heartbreaking news of his father’s death. The 6 feet 3 inches tall gridiron football defensive end shared that his father, who was abducted by bandits on the Abuja-Kaduna highway in May 2022, never recovered from the trauma of the event.

In an emotional address to the media, Adetoro recounted the distressing experience.

“On May 17, my father was abducted along with other victims during one of his trips on the Abuja-Kaduna highway. We were helpless, just like other families whose relatives were victims of this horrendous act. My dad was later released, but he never recovered from the shock and trauma of the abduction. Despite our best efforts to get him the best medical care, all was to no avail as he finally passed away. This period has been very tough for myself and my loved ones.”

Adetoro described his father as a loving man who transitioned from a career in banking to farming and livestock. “He gave his best for his family and those close to him,” Adetoro added.

The Adetoro family has begun making burial arrangements to pay their final respects and will communicate the dates to the public in due course.

The insecurity in Kaduna and along the Abuja-Kaduna highway has been a growing concern, with the route being notorious for kidnappings and murders. It has been described as the most dangerous road in the country.

Adebisi’s heartfelt tribute and the family’s loss highlight the devastating impact of the ongoing security issues in Nigeria. The gridiron football star’s candid sharing of his grief underscores the personal toll these incidents take on countless families.

As the Adetoro family prepares to lay their father to rest, they also shine a light on the urgent need for improved security measures to protect citizens and prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
