The Bayelsa Golf Course in Yenagoa is the country’s newest facility in the elite sport. It boasts some of the finest appurtenances one can find in any standard golf club anywhere in the world.

Located in a prime part of the New Yenagoa, the golf course has the potential of pooling tourists to the state. Recently, top golfers, including the Life President of the Nigerian Professional Golfers Association, General Ibrahim Haruna (rtd), were at the 18-hole course to witness the inauguration of the facility built by the outgoing Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

Dickson described it as part of his administration’s drive to open up the aquatic state. Thrilled by what he saw of the facility, Gen. Haruna admonished the incoming governor of the state, David Lyon to key into the vision that birthed the course. Describing it as a world-class facility, the retired army officer tasked leaders of the state to see the golf course as a treasure that must be nurtured for the greater good.

The inauguration also witnessed the maiden Invitational Open Golf Championship held at the club. The two-day event, which featured professional and amateur golfers from South Korea, Ghana, Cameroun, Gabon and Nigeria, marked the entrance of the facility into the Nigerian golf calendar.
