Tyson Fury’s highly anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua will take place in the United Kingdom and will not be promoted by Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.
That is according to Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn, who dismissed growing speculation that the blockbuster all-British heavyweight clash could be staged in the United States.
Fury came out of retirement in April and cruised to a points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov in front of more than 60,000 fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Joshua watching from ringside.
Just days later, Fury and Joshua reportedly agreed terms for a long-awaited fight expected to take place in November. However, Joshua must first come through his scheduled bout against Kristian Prenga on July 25 unscathed, while Fury is also expected to have another fight before their meeting.
Concerns had emerged that the mega-fight could be moved to the United States after reports claimed that the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas were being considered as potential venues.
Adding fuel to the speculation, UFC president Dana White recently claimed that Hearn played no role in negotiating the fight contract.
“Call Eddie right now and ask him where the fight is,” White said during a news conference. “Call Eddie and ask who negotiated the contract for the fight. It wasn’t him.”
Hearn, however, fired back at White, insisting that the UFC boss has no involvement in the promotion of the fight.
“His boxing business is so dead that he’s trying to find a way to be relevant and part of the biggest fight in boxing, which is Joshua vs Fury,” Hearn told ESPN.
“I negotiated the fight contract for three months with SELA and Turki Alalshikh. Dana White has no clue what is in that contract.
“No. 1, Dana White, TKO and Zuffa can have no promotional involvement in that show at all. He also doesn’t know about the other clause in the contract that states Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury must take place in the UK.”
Although no official date or venue has been confirmed, Wembley Stadium in London is widely expected to host the heavyweight showdown.
Hearn also revealed that the bout is likely to take place in November.
Reports further suggest that the first fight could be broadcast live on Netflix, while a potential rematch may be streamed on DAZN.
White has yet to respond publicly to Hearn’s latest remarks.
The relationship between the two promoters has deteriorated sharply in recent months following White’s entry into boxing through Zuffa Boxing.
Their feud escalated to the point where both men even discussed fighting each other, although White was later accused of backing away from the idea.
Several fighters have since weighed in on the rivalry, including Fury, who openly backed White and joked about officiating a fight between the pair.
“All this beef going on with Eddie Hearn and Dana White. I am backing Dana all the way,” Fury said in a video posted on his Instagram Story.
“Dana to knock his face right in. The posh git. And if you want, I will be the referee of the fight. GK all day, every day. Let’s go. Boom!”
