HFN begins preparation for Nations Cup
NIGERIA’S preparation for the Handball Nations Cup in Cairo will begin today in Abuja with 30 male players and coaches.
According to Handball Federation of Nigeria’s (HFN) Technical Director, Pat Atusu, the camping is to pick those that will eventually make the list to Cairo, where the competition will hold between January 21 and 30.
“The camping will start tomorrow by His grace in Abuja and we have decided to invite 30 male players, 13 coaches and the technical director. We hope to be in the camp until hopefully around January 18 or 19 when the team list for the Nations Cup in Cairo trip will be ready,” he said.
Atusu explained further “In the Nations Cup, four countries out of 12 are expected to qualify for the World Cup. But as for the number of countries that will represent Africa at the Olympics, we are yet to be told.”
The HFN Technical Director said the veterans (the retired players of the sport) have agreed to assist the team in kick-starting the preparation, adding that the National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the team’s programme despite the paucity of fund occasioned by the current situation in the country.
