Winner of the last GOtv ‘Night of Boxing’s’ N1 million prize money, Olaide Fijabi, popularly known as “Fijaborn,” has revealed that he decided to ‘sacrifice’ the money on people who have been helping him in his boxing career.

“That money (N1 million) did not belong to me alone,” he said. “I have a coach, a manager and fans who have been assisting me. So, I shared the money to all of them. I also gave part of it to members of my family. We call it sacrifice in my place because they were the people who have been helping me.

“If I win another N1 million on October 25, I will settle down and decide what to do with it. I am training very had to emerge the best boxer once again. I have used part of the money (N1 m) to buy enough foodstuff and provisions in preparation for the coming fight. I won’t disappoint my fans,” Fijabi said.

The 4th GOTv ‘Night of Boxing,’ scheduled for October 25 at the National Stadium, Lagos, is one of the ways the satellite broadcast outfit is trying to revive boxing in Nigeria.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, Public Relations Manager of GOtv, Efe Obiomah, said the monetary reward of N1m for the best boxer was part of the company’s plan to improve the life of Nigerian boxers.

Six bouts, including a 10-round international Super middleweight bout between Isaac Ekpo of Nigeria and Jules Kabore of Burkina Faso have been listed by the organisers, Flykite Productions, for the October 25 event.
