After their unimpressive performance against the Crocodiles of Lesotho in Uyo, on Thursday, Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, has vowed to lead the squad to victory against the Warriors of Zimbabwe today.

Zimbabwe play their home games in Rwanda, and they have one point so far in the campaign following the draw they secured on Wednesday against Rwanda in the qualification race.

The Super Eagles arrived in the city yesterday morning, and Iheanacho said the team must get their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign back on track with a win against the Warriors of Zimbabwe. Today’s match will hold at the Huye Stadium, Butare.

Iheanacho, who had the honour of captaining the team against Lesotho, expressed disappointment with the outcome of the game against Leslie Notsi’s side.

The Leicester City star, who made an assist against Lesotho, at the Nest of Champions, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, stated that they must go all out for a win against Zimbabwe.

“Huge honour to captain the team in Uyo on Thursday. I know that was a game we have to win but we didn’t. We got a point from it. Hopefully, we would do a lot more in the next game and get the three points against Zimbabwe,” he stated.

South Africa are currently topping Group C with three points after yesterday’s 2-1 defeat of Benin Republic in their opening game.

Nigeria’s senior men’s handball team have been drawn in Group D of the 23rd African Handball Cup of Nations, which will hold in Egypt from January 19 to 29, 2024.

According to the Handball Federation of Nigeria, the Nations Cup will also be used as the qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 World Handball Championship, which will hold in Croatia, Denmark and Norway.
