Keshi missing, as Cote d’Ivoire shortlists five for vacant Elephants’ job

Keshi

Keshi-9The Ivoirian Football Federation (FIF) has shortlisted five persons for the post of head coach of the national team, the Elephants, but Super Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi, is not among the names released by the body.

Keshi was queried last week for being among applicants for the Ivoirian position vacated by Herve Renard early this year. According to PANA, the shortlisted candidates are Patrice Neveu, Paolo Duarte, Michel Dussuyer, Henry Kasperczak and Frédéric Antonetti. FIF said a further shortlist of three candidates would soon be released before the final selection.

Hervé Renard resigned as coach of the Elephants after leading Côte d’Ivoire to its second continental title in February. He is now with French league club Lille.

Keshi has been involved in a public spat with his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, over allegations that he applied for the Ivorian job while still being employed by Nigeria. He was said to be one of around 60 coaches, who had shown interest in replacing Renard, and this led to an investigation and a disciplinary hearing.
