Former Super Falcons World Cup star, Maureen Madu, has teamed up with a Norwegian beverage company to institute the most valuable player of the Nigerian National League (NNL) award, which offers the winner N50, 000.

Speaking on the award at the weekend, Mmadu said she decided to give back to the Nigerian society, which gave her the opportunity of becoming an international football star and also a coach of a European women’s football team, Avaldsnes FC of Norway.

The former Princess Jegede Babes of Lagos star is using the Norway-based sports drink, Watty Energy drink, of which she is a brand ambassador, to propel the award.

The energy drink is currently the official drink of the NNL, which is Nigeria’s second tier football league.Mmadu revealed that the award was presented to winners after matches of the NNL in various designated venues across the country in the just concluded season.

“It tastes very good and the name Watty means the maximum power in you. So, it brings out your maximum power when you drink it. Anytime you need maximum power, just take it and you will feel the difference.

It’s real and energizing,” the veteran player, who holds the record of being the first Super Falcons player to attain 100 caps for the senior women national team, said.

Mmadu, who won four African Women’s Championship titles for Nigeria, said that gradually the Watty Energy drink would spread across the country following its official launch in Port Harcourt, Onitsha and Lagos, with the next stop being Abuja.
