
• FCT Police boss vows to get killers
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, yesterday paid a condolence visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the murder of its Head of Protocol, Ibrahim Abubakar.
Abubakar was killed by unknown gunmen in his house on Oluwunmi Crescent, Kado Estate, Abuja in the early hours of yesterday.
The late Ibrahim Abubakar, a hardworking and energetic officer, is survived by his wife and three sons, and aged parents.
Dalung, who was in company of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Christian Ohaa and other top officers of his entourage, was received by the Deputy General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme at the Glass house.
The NFF said the graduate of Political Science from the Ahmadu Bello University was conveyed to his hometown of Kaduna, where he was buried yesterday according to Islamic rites.
“It is really a sad loss, not just for the NFF, but for the entire Sports Family. This sad occurrence has again brought to the fore the need for adequate security in the country; a situation where we all live in fear of the unknown is worrisome,” Dalung stated.
The minister later signed the condolence register in honour of late Ibrahim Abubukar.
In his response, NFF Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme thanked the Minister for his gesture and quick response “on behalf of the NFF President, the board, management and staff of the Football Federation, we want to appreciate your kind gesture, especially because you turned up at the secretariat yourself to commiserate with us on the loss of our dear colleague, “said Ikpeme.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Wilson Inalegwu, has vowed that the Police would fish out Abubakar’s killers.
