The Director General Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Adewunmi Ogunsanya, has assured that more talents would be discovered among the students, as part of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration drive to make Lagos a sports hub in Africa.

Ogunsanya disclosed this to journalists after the successful completion of the maiden edition of the Under-17 Judo Slam Championship held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Hall, Rowe Park, Yaba.

The participating schools are under the Educational District Four of Lagos.

While commending the Lagos State Judo Association for their support in putting the championship together, the Director General said: “I am extremely happy, fulfilled and delighted with the championship. I have seen that this state is blessed with lots of talents if more of championships like this are organised among the students.

“I am amazed that based on the number of athletes present here, despite that it is limited in terms of participation from schools, we have seen so much talents here. You can imagine if this had been extended to other parts of the Lagos State.

“In terms of these students coming around to participate in this competition; I appreciate the fact that some of them live far away and probably, the logistics of bringing them around to the centres like the Rowe Park, were a bit difficult for them. But for the few ones that we have seen around, the participation has been awesome, the level of skills of the children has gone beyond elementary.”
