NIGERIA Basketball Federation (NBBF) yesterday named USA’s William Voigt as the national men Basketball team’s (D’Tigers) coach ahead of the 2015 Aftobasketball tournament scheduled for Tunisia later this year.

Voigt was the Head Coach and General Manager of the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League from August 2009 to July 2014 and during this period, he won more games than any other coach in the D-League and helped his team to be regular Season Champions in 2012-2013.

According to the NBBF, he was offered a short term contract until September to win the Afrobasketball Championship and qualify Nigeria for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. If he succeeds, he will lead the team to the Olympics, the federation said.

Voight will be assisted by a team of assistant coaches and video analysts, including Ayinla Johnson and Abdulrahaman Mohammed, as well as the team’s current doctor and physiotherapist.

The National team training camp is expected to open in Abuja on July 15 with both home and foreign-based players.
