Newly-elected FIFA president Gianni Infantino will make his first official trip since replacing Sepp Blatter by visiting the scandal-hit South American football confederation CONMEBOL on March 28-29, sources in the body’s headquarters in Asuncion said

CONMEBOL was the confederation most hit by the crisis which has engulfed world football’s governing body since last May, accounting for nine of the 16 officials or former officials charged in the corruption scandal.

The Swiss-Italian former Secretary General of CONMEBOL’s European equivalent UEFA visited Paraguay in January to muster crucial support for his bid from the ten federations.

After meeting CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez Wilson Smith, Infantino will also meet Paraguay president Horacio Cartes and then travel on to Bolivia and Uruguay.
