The crisis rocking Delta State Football Association over the battle for the chairmanship of DFA may be over tomorrow, as two top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are expected to arrive in Asaba to resolve the issue.

A member of Tunisia ’94 Super Eagles winning team, Edema Fuludu is at ‘war’ with another ex-international and member of the Atlanta ’96 Olympics soccer gold medalist, Victor Ikpeba in the race for the chairmanship of DFA. Others said to be eying the position are Mr. Ken Nwabochi, Mr. Lucky Sunday and Mr. Sam Sodje.

They are battling to replace former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, who resigned midway into his administration. The Guardian learnt yesterday that the NFF had designated two officials, Chairman of Chairmen, Mallam Ibrahim Musa Gusau and Onoja Jushua Esq to meet with the warring parties tomorrow in Asaba.

A latter signed by the NFF Chairman of Chairmen, Mallam Ibrahim Musa Gusau, made available to The Guardian yesterday revealed that the duo would be in Asaba tomorrow for the ‘peace’ meeting scheduled to hold at the Patrick Okpomo Football House. The letter called on the Delta State Football Association Executive Board, Delta State Football Association Congress and the entire football stakeholders in the state to converge at the venue.

Gusau assured that their coming would bring a lasting solution to the lingering crisis in the Delta Football Association and usher in a credible process leading to election into the executive board. He appealed to all aggrieved parties, club administrators/owners/chairmen, coaches, journalists and major stakeholders to be presence to discuss the way forward.

Fuludu, who has been on an acting capacity since Okocha left, feels he has what it takes to turn Delta State football around for good. Ikpeba, on the other hand, feels he is the right man for the job, having served as a member of the State FA for some years now. However, some stakeholders believe that the position of Delta FA chairman should be given to someone who is resident in the state since the era of ‘Okocha calling the shots from Lagos’ did not take Delta football anywhere.
