Eagles begin training tomorrow

Activities will commence in Super Eagles camp today, as the home-based players invited for the double-header 2017 Afcon qualifiers against the Pharaohs of Egypt are expected to hit the teams camp in Abuja.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, interim coach, Samson Siasia disclosed that all home-based and foreign–based players invited for the match have equal chances of making the final 23 man squad for the qualifier.

Siasia, who spoke through Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said that there is no automatic shirt for any player in the team.

He noted that since the team cannot play international friendlies due to limited time, the Eagles would engage some top clubs in the domestic league in preparation for Egypt.

The Eagles are expected to depart Abuja for Kaduna, venue of the game, on March 20, where the foreign-based players will join the team.

He assured that the Eagles would get the best preparations for the tie.

“The Eagles will resume camp on Monday (today). All the domestic players invited for the game had engagements with their teams at the weekend and that is why they could not arrive camp on Sunday. Training will commence on Monday evening if the players in camp are enough,” he said.

The first leg of the qualifier will take place in Kaduna on March 25, while the return-leg holds in Alexandria, Egypt on March 29.
