NPFL: Barau FC unveil new technical adviser, eye top four finish

A Kano-based football club, Barau FC, has vowed to consolidate its successful migration from the Nigerian Nationwide League (NNL) to reclaim top space in the Premier League campaign in the new season.

Besides, the new Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) entrant unveiled former head coach of Bayelsa United and former coach of the Nigeria national under-20 football team, Isah Ladan Bosso, as the new technical adviser.

Founder of the club and Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau I. Jibril, who was optimistic about the capacity of his boys, maintained he’s prepared to give what it would take to lead the club to a continental campaign.

Barau gave the commitment at a special ceremony to commemorate the performance of the players that led to their promotion to the Premier League.

The ranking senator, representing Kano North senatorial district, said he has gone the extra mile to strengthen the technical support, therefore urged the players to rededicate themselves to a better future.

Speaking on the rationale behind the establishment of the football club, Barau said he was particularly committed to exploring professional football talent and careers among the young generation. He added that the productive platform established was to equally rescue the youth from drug abuse and other related social vices in Kano.

“You’ve brought victory to us, and to Kano State, and victory to the youth of this country. Because you’ve done the impossible. But more are yet to come. I know with the calibre of the players we’ve got, by next year we shall be at the continental stage.

“That is our goal, and we will get there. I know you will fulfil that promise. For everybody who knows me knows that I don’t begin something and fail. I always succeed by the grace of God. Because I take everything seriously. I’m part of the technical team. For every match, I discuss with them. I was also a former football player.

“The reason for the establishment of the club is to engage our youths so that they can have something that will occupy their minds, because when you look at what is happening as we speak, in Kano State and indeed the entire nation, the issue of drug addiction is very, very rampant these days.

“Children or youths going into vices like stealing, robbery, and what have you is rampant these days. In Kano now, you can’t move around freely with your phone. Someone very young will snatch that phone from you. So I felt that, okay, in order to reduce such occurrences, there’s a need to bring up a football team that will help, no matter how little, to engage our youths,” Barau added.

Meanwhile, Barau announced the sum of N500,000 and a brand-new motorcycle to each of the 35 members of the team as consolation prizes for their brilliant performance at the NNLO.
