Okagbare’s Guiness Book success thrills AFN

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has said that the emergence of Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor as winner of the 2015 Guinness World Book of Records prize is good for both Nigeria’s sports and the athlete.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has said that the emergence of Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor as winner of the 2015 Guinness World Book of Records prize is good for both Nigeria’s sports and the athlete.

The African queen of the tracks, Okagbare, over the weekend beat World’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, to win the 2015 Guinness World Book of Records prize for most IAAF Diamond League appearances.

The Urhobo-born multi-discipline athlete, whose specialties are the 100m and 200m sprints and long jump, participated in 38 Diamond league events between July 3, 2010 and September 5, 2014.

Though Jamaica’s Usain Bolt has won the IAAF World Athlete of the year in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, but is still surpassed by Okagbare when it comes to appearances.

The IAAF Diamond League is an annual series of track and field meetings that has been holding since 2010 till date, and Okagbare has participated in 38 events higher than any other athlete in the world.
