Okowa charges Warri Wolves to beat Leopards
Congolese team arrives with 80 supporters
DELTA State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, is determined to see Warri Wolves conquer visiting AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville in their CAF Confederations Cup campaign tomorrow at Warri City Stadium.
Wolves, Nigeria’s only surviving club in this year’s CAF inter-club competitions, have an uphill task, as they attempt to upturn a 3-0 deficit against the Congolese.
The team has been facing some financial difficulties, but Okowa promptly released funds yesterday for the players and officials of Warri Wolves to be in right frame of mind to ‘deal’ with the Congolese.
An official of Warri Wolves told The Guardian yesterday that Governor Okowa was only briefed about the team’s financial predicament on Tuesday night.
“He has directed that money be released to the club without delay,” Wolves’ Media Officer, Moses Etu, told The Guardian yesterday.
Governor Okowa, has, however, urged the club to do everything possible to win the match not only for his government, but the entire country.
Meanwhile, a player of Warri Wolves, Goodluck Onamado, has declared that they will not let Nigerian soccer fans down saying: “We know the expectation of Nigerians and we will do all we can to win the game.”
