Prince Adejoro Olateru-Olagbeji at the weekend combined with Tony Unuavworho to win the men’s doubles title at the just concluded Lagos Country Club Tennis Festival. They beat the duo of Matt Holmes and Chijioke Agbo 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to win the crown at the festival, which came to an exciting end at the prestigious Ikeja-based club.

Holmes had earlier beaten Kola Sofola to win the men’s singles ‘A’ title in another exciting encounter, just as Omatsola Abati took a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Olukayode Ifeajika in battle for the men’s singles ‘B’ title of the three-week tournament sponsored by Etisalat.

The doubles match was the last match of the tournament and was watched by club president, Kayode Moradeyo, the immediate past president, Wale Osomo, and Etisalat officials, among other guests.

“I had a decent performance because I am the supporting player. Our opponents are highly rated but in the end we kept our focus to win even when they mounted a fightback,” Unuavworho, an architect, said after the final game.

The women’s doubles title was won by Tosin Osikoya and Dolapo Holmes, who defeated Lola Aluko and Ayo Odiah 6-1, 3-6, 10-7, while the veterans’ doubles was won by Sani/Obed, who beat Olagbegi and Akinhanmi.

Nathaniel Aluko beat Tobi Ayoola 9-11, 10-1,10-3 to win the under 8 (Red Ball) while Mosisienemo Gabriel defeated Sewa Teluwo 10-1, 10-3 to win the girl’s title. Toluwase Dele-Oshiga topped Fisayo Ariyo 10-4, 10-7 for the under 9 (Orange Ball).

Serena Teluwo edged Olamide Aluko 5-4, 4-2 for the girls under 12 crown just as Filippo Trombi outplayed Ayorinde Gabriel 4-0, 4-0 in the boy’s category.

Kareem Kareem won the boy’s under 18 by beating Gideon Aluko while Isaac Attah and Michael Osho took the senior and junior ball boys titles at the expense of Innocent Joseph and Emmanuel Bassey respectively.
