THE maiden edition of handball competition for secondary schools in Lagos tagged Opeifa Cup will be competed among 38 registered schools in both boys and girls categories beginning from May 18 to 21 at the Sports Hall of Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba, Lagos.

Speaking in Lagos to herald the competition, the Vice Chairman of Lagos State Handball Association, Wole Sogbomu, who represented the sponsor, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, said the competition is being organised in commemoration of Opeifa’s 50th birthday.

“The competition is being staged to commemorate Comrade Opeifa’s 50th birthday, which comes up on May 21. The choice of handball was as a result of the impressive showing of the Lagos State men and women handball team at the National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012, and subsequently at the IBILE Games”.
