Organisers Fix Date For Qualifiers, As Registration Begins
Qualifying matches for the 2016 Five-A-Side World Football Championship billed to hold in Bangkok, Thailand, next year would kick off at different zones across Nigeria from November 4 to December 19, the organisers have revealed.
According to the organisers, registration for the championship aimed at assisting young grassroots footballers within the U-16 age bracket realise their dream of becoming professionals, would commence online on September 1.
Speaking in Lagos while unveiling the programme for Nigeria’s participation in the competition, chairman of the local organizing committee, Fredrick Agbi of Five Sports Limited, revealed that six countries, including Egypt, Tunisia Botswana, South Africa, Algeria and Nigeria were among the 36 expected to present five–a-side teams in Thailand.
He explained that prospective teams for the championship have been pooled into seven zones, including Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Uyo, Kano, Abuja and Kaduna, adding that the grand finale of the qualifiers will hold in Lagos from January 8 to 10, 2016.
Agbi added that any team that wins the qualifiers would automatically be sponsored to the world championship.
