Oriwu School, Barrel Avenue hit GTBank Lagos Principals Cup final

IT was time for celebration for students and teachers of Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, and Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo, yesterday, following their qualification into the final of the GTBank-Lagos State Principals Cup Season 6.

Oriwu defeated CMS Girls Secondary School, Bariga 4-3 in a penalty shootout in the fist semifinal played at Onikan Stadium yesterday.

It was a hard-earned victory for the Ikorodu based school, as they battled to a barren draw at full time before securing the final ticket in a drama filled penalty shootout.

The two schools missed their first kicks, but Oriwu converted their remaining four, while CMS could only score three.

However, CMS striker, Edomekop Ndiana, won the Most Valuable Player award of the match.

While the Ikorodu girls were celebrating, the male students of Ikorodu Senior Grammar School were left to mourn their loss to Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo, in their semifinal encounter.

Birrel Avenue Senior High School came from behind to win 2-1 to secure their passage into the final.

It was the first time the Sabo-based school featured in the GTBank-Lagos State Principals Cup semifinal.

Like their Oriwu girls, students and teachers of Birrel Avenue Senior High School celebrated late into the night yesterday.

Ifako Comprehensive Senior High School will trade tackles with Keke High School in another semifinal cracker today at same venue.

The games master of Ifako Comprehensive, Mr. Famakinwa said it is a spectacular feeling to get to this stage of the competition and he is very sure that his team will imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship when they face 2012 champions’ Keke High School, Agege in the semi-finals today.

The Head Events and Media Management of GTBank, Jide Sipe, told The Guardian yesterday that the bank would continue to improve on every edition of the competition. He said that all the participating schools had lived up to expectations in this year’s championship.
