Lawmaker offers Akpodiete lifeline to turn professional
Akpodiete, penultimate week emerged overall winner of the Eastern Regional Final of the World Golfers Nigeria Championship at the Port Harcourt (golf section). He won in the 0-5 handicap after grossing a score of 71.
The following, he went on to winner the Workers Day tourney in his club. He also won two ancillary prizes in the tourney, that is the nearest to the pin and longest drive.
“It is my greatest desire to play golf professionally, and I am happy to inform you that a lawmaker in my state, whom I wont disclose his identity for now, has come to my rescue”. Akpodiete told The Guardian yesterday.
“He has commenced enquiries about procurement and the necessary steps towards enrolling for the Q-School and any of these days, I will sit down with him to discuss issues because it has been my greatest desire to turn professional after I graduated.
Akpodiete added, “apart from me, he is also of very strong support to my younger brother, Friday and Paul Inye, another up and coming player that is supported will go places.
The leader of golfers from the eastern and southern parts of the country to the National Final of the World Golfers Nigeria Championship in Akwa Ibom State said “I am very happy with the level of commitment he has shown so far, and I promise not to disappoint once the process begins.
Commenting on his preparations for the National Final, he said, “I am doing everything possible, that is by way of preparations to ensure that I win the category and go ahead to represent the country. My younger brother did it before and this is my turn to do so.
“As a matter of fact, I believe that I am going to win the tournament with ease and go ahead to represent Nigeria in Thailand,” he concluded
