NSC set to re-invigorate school sports, says Dikko
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has called on private sector organisations to synergise with the commission as it works towards the reintroduction of school sports into the country’s educational system.
He said that the move is aimed at achieving grassroots sports development in the country.
Speaking when he received Prince Ezelekhae Ewuare of Benin Kingdom in his office, Dikko emphasised the importance of more high net-worth people getting involved in the development of sports in the country, especially at the grassroots level, saying this will help in curbing the menace of youth restiveness and similar vices, particularly at this critical period.
When the administration is trying to overcome security challenges bedeviling the country.
Dikko said: “The reintroduction of school sports is one of the plans of the commission towards encouraging youths to meaningfully in sporting activities, while at the same time pursuing and advancing their educational careers.”
Dikko commended the prince for coming up with the laudable initiative of collaborating with the commission on grassroots sports projects, adding that if more people are doing what the prince is doing across the country, it will offer more Nigerian youths a bright future, and evil vices will go away.
He said: “We will try to promote as much as possible what you are doing because this will inspire people of like minds to get involved so that collectively, we can provide a framework and platform that youths can leverage to realize their sporting ambitions.”
Earlier, Prince Ezelekhae intimated the chairman on his grassroots sports development project, aimed at encouraging youths to engage in sports with a view to keeping them busy.
Prince Ezelekhae revealed that he has about seven gymnasiums where most sportsmen and women come to train, and urged the commission to collaborate with him to expand it to accommodate more sporting activities.
