Over 300 golfers battle for Plateau Governor’s Cup honours

Over 300 professionals and amateur players have gathered at the Lamingo Golf Club, Jos, to vie for honours in the 2024 Plateau Governor’s Cup Golf Kitty, which ends tomorrow.

Over 300 professionals and amateur players have gathered at the Lamingo Golf Club, Jos, to vie for honours in the 2024 Plateau Governor’s Cup Golf Kitty, which ends tomorrow.

The week-long golf tournament began on Monday with professional and amateur golfers from across Nigeria and some neighbouring African countries taking to the course in the various categories.

Captain of Lamingo Golf Club, Mr. Silas Vem, who doubles as chairman of the local organising committee of the tournament, explained that the tournament has a long standing history as it has been sponsored by the Plateau State Government and friends of the governor every year.

He said: “This year’s tournament has top ranked professionals in the country and some West African countries, beside the large entries recorded for ladies and category one players. We equally introduced the senior tour, super veterans categories and special categories.

“It is one week of golfing on the rocks, the home of peace and tourism. Activities to mark the week include competition by professional and amateur golfers, comprising ladies, super veterans, veterans, and regular men.

“December 9 to 12, 2024, was set aside for professionals and category one golfers (men). We are pleased to inform you that it started with 92 entries (professionals and category one Amateurs).

“Ladies professionals and men senior tour battled for three days, starting from December 10 to 12, 2024, while the super veterans, 70 years and above and special ladies category course will hold on Friday, December 13, 2024.”

The LOC chairman stated that December 14 and 15, 2024 is scheduled for the over 300 amateur golfers, made up of Ladies, veterans and categories 2,3 and 4 players, to showcase their golfing skills.

The LOC chairman said that the competition tees off by 7.00 a.m. daily, noting that the official ceremonial tee-off would be taken by the grand patron of the club, Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Saturday.

A cocktail party held on Friday, December 13, 2024, with the tournament ending on Sunday, December 15, 2024 with the presentation of prizes to deserving winners by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
