Players fight for N2million At EEAST Scrabble Championship

The second edition of Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST), will end today with top players in different categories aiming to get a share of the N2 million on offer.

The second edition of Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST), will end today with top players in different categories aiming to get a share of the N2 million on offer. The championship started yesterday at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to the organisers, a total of 16 round of games will take place in the championship. Newly crowned West Africa Scrabble Tournament champion, Eta Karo, has said he will bring his board strategy to bear as he will have to contend against familiar rivals in the championship.

Other top Scrabble players include former World Champion, Wellington Jighere, Enoch Nwali, Olatunde Oduwole and Emmanuel Umujose.

Defending champion of EEAST, Dokun Esan, has also expressed his desire to fight off challengers to retain his title this year. The winner is expected to pocket N250,000 and consolation prizes for participants.

The tournament is supported by Cinq SAA, AfricanSports, BizzyBody, MGi, Lekki Scrabble Club, Leonse International, SAOR and Eko Hotel & Suites.

Meanwhile, initiator of the tournament, Emmanuel Egbele, said all strategic plans have been activated by the committee to deliver the “Sophomore Edition” as one of the best scrabble experience in the present era. He added that Eko Hotel was selected to give an International ambience to the tournament.

The EEAST will be used as a rating- points garnering tournament for the MGi Scrabble Grand Slam Championship slated for October this year.

Also, the Championship, which is also a Nigeria Scrabble Federation rated event, will be a veritable ground for players to prepare for the National Sports Festival taking place in Asaba, Delta State in November.
