Jakub Kaminski believes that Poland will be in a good position to defeat the Super Eagles when they meet in an international friendly this month, despite their 0-2 loss to Ukraine recently.
The Polish winger said that there is confidence within the squad, adding that, like Nigeria, Poland is trying to build a new team after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Kamiński blamed his country’s loss to Ukraine on the fact that many of the players were meeting in the national team for the first time, adding that they would be ready for Nigeria after more time together on the pitch.
According to Sportowefakty, Kaminski said: “It’s obvious that some of us were playing together for the first time, and it’s normal that sometimes there was a lack of automaticity. We still have the match against Nigeria, and we’ll definitely improve the elements that weren’t working today”.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that he is working hard to be ready for the forthcoming games against Poland and Portugal.
Iwobi’s declaration is a welcome boost to the Super Eagles, who have already lost Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Femi Azeez, Samson Tijani, Alhassan Yusuf and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro to withdrawals for various reasons.
The Fulham stalwart, who just recovered from an injury he copped in an English Premier League game against Brentford in April, said he is willing to help Nigeria overcome the two Europeans in Warsaw and
Lisbon respectively.
Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, the former Arsenal midfielder said: “The 2025–26 season has wrapped up, a season of ups and downs. Of course, we wanted to secure a European spot, but it wasn’t meant to be. Nonetheless, we’ve got to be proud of what we achieved and how far Fulham has come as a club.”
Yesterday, Captain Wilfred Ndidi led 15 other players in a first training session in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland, as the Super Eagles commenced preparations for tomorrow’s potentially explosive international friendly match against the White-Reds of Poland.
Tomorrow’s clash at the 58,000 -capacity Stadion PGE Narodowy is only the second meeting between the two countries at the senior level. On March 23, 2018, as part of their tune-up games for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, Nigeria defeated hosts Poland 1-0 at the Stadion Miejski we Wroclawiu in the city of Wroclaw, with Victor Moses the scorer on the night.
Like Nigeria, Poland came up short in the final hurdle in the race to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. After beating Albania, the White-Reds lost 2-3 to Sweden in the Euro playoff final. On their part, the Super Eagles defeated Gabon before losing to DR Congo after a penalty shootout in the African playoff final.
The players at the Super Eagles’ Warsaw Presidential Hotel at lunchtime yesterday were Captain Ndidi, goalkeepers Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho and Arthur Okonkwo, defenders Bruno Onyemaechi, Zaidu Sanusi, Emmanuel Fernandez and Igoh Ogbu, midfielders Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika and Tochukwu Nnadi, and forwards Moses Simon, Paul Onuachu, Jerome Akor Adams, Terem Moffi and Rafiu Durosinmi.
Defender Semi Ajayi, whose Hull City FC recently won promotion back to the English Premier League, arrived after lunch to warm hugs and fist-pumping by teammates. So did fresh invitee Abdullahi Bewene. Neither of them was part of yesterday’s training session.
Coach Eric Chelle, fresh from leading the Eagles to retain the Unity Cup in London, is looking forward to tomorrow’s game with optimism.
“There is a culture of winning that we are trying to build in this team, and that mentality is important. You can say that it is difficult to have games at this time because the players have been in holiday mode for about two weeks, but the job must be done.
“We have 18 players in camp now, and we will work with that. Everybody must work hard, and we will go into the match with the determination to win.”
The Franco-Malian drilled his warriors for 80 minutes under light rain at the Stadion Polinii Warsawa. Today’s official training session will be held at the match venue – Stadion PGE Narodowy.
