After beating homeboy, Michel Noudem of Cameroun, on September 19 in the ‘Battle of Yaounde’, Power Lee is looking forward to floor his challenger from Angola in front of his home people on November 1 to retain the African highest wrestling title. The November 1 contest is tagged ‘Restoration of Glory’ to Asaba.
According to the policy of Pro Wrestling organisation, Power Lee is supposed to defend the title on October 18, which is one month after winning it in Cameroun. But the intervention by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroun, Ambassador Hadiza Mustapha, saw Pro Wrestling Africa moving the date to November 1.
If he fails to stage the fight, Power Lee will be striped of the title.
Speaking with The Guardian from Asaba yesterday, Power Lee’s promoter, Sunny Irakpo, said that they were in Asaba to meet with some government officials in preparation for the fight, adding that everything needed to give the Nigerian victory against the visiting Angolan would be put in place.
Power Lee, a native of Owhe in Isoko North local Council of Delta State, will battle the Angolan in the Indoor Sports Hall, Asaba.
The November 1 contest, according to Pro wrestling Africa, will also attract professional wrestlers from Egypt, Congo DR, Cameroun, Ghana and Benin Republic, just as international officials are expected from the Pro Wrestling body in Glasgow, Scotland.
Power Lee has been Nigeria’s heavyweight pro wrestling title holder since December 2010.
Irakpo said yesterday that retaining the title in Asaba on November 1 would be a thing of joy for Power Lee, youths of Delta State and indeed all Nigerians.
