Africa heavyweight Pro wrestling champion, Godspower Peace Ikpide, popularly known as “De Great Power Lee’ has appealed to Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to save him the embarrassment of losing his title.

Power Lee, a native of Owhe in Isoko North local Council of Delta State, made history on September 19 by defeating homeboy, Michel Noudem of Cameroun, in Yaounde to win the title relinquished by another Camerounian, who held the belt for 28 years.

According to the policy of Pro Wrestling Africa (PWA), Power Lee was supposed to defend the title on October 18, which is one month after winning it in Yaounde. But the intervention by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroun, Ambassador Hadiza Mustapha, saw PWA moving the date to November 1.

Power Lee has just been rated the world number eight best Pro wrestler, following the victory in Yaounde, and is being challenged by Angola’s heavyweight wrestler, Marvelous Buffalo, for the title on November 1.

Since his return from Yaounde, the wrestler has been shuttling between his base in Lagos and Asaba, Delta State capital, in a bid to make the fight come true, following assurances from some top government officials.

But time is running out and Power Lee is afraid he might be striped of the title if he failed to stage the fight, which will also attract wrestlers from Egypt, Congo DR, Cameroun, Ghana and Benin Republic.

In a message to Governor Okowa yesterday through the Secretary to Delta State Government, Power Lee wrote: “Good morning Honourable sir, I was so glad to be rated No 8 in the latest AIWF World ranking as an African. The November 1 fight is around the corner and I am yet to present the African championship title belt to His Excellency. If I am unable to defend my title on the said date, the Pro Wrestling Africa might strip me of the title. Please use your good offices to make a landmark. Thanks, Power Lee De Great.”
