THE Rio 2016 Olympics Nigeria House Project Committee has revealed its intention to bring in foreign investments worth over $22 billion to the country from the games.
The seven-man committee was inaugurated by the Youth and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, on Tuesday with the mandate to identify and recommend a suitable venue within the proximity of the Games Village in Rio de Janeiro, identify and solicit for sponsorship locally and internationally to aid the Nigeria House Project, network with Nigeria Embassy and Local Organising Committee of the games.
They are also expected to facilitate seamless movement of participants, as well as materials such as artefacts, arts, crafts, solid minerals investment and equipment, among others.
Speaking on their assignment yesterday in Abuja, Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria House Project, Mohammed B. Abdullahi, said the Olympics presents a big opportunity for the nation to rebrand and promote its potential through showcasing its rich and diverse cultural heritage and products by giving opportunity to stakeholders to attract skills and investors to the country.
“We will use the Olympics to achieve this, beginning from the Rio edition in Brazil because the Olympics remains a global brand and highest sporting fiesta in the world that brings together about 205 countries. We need to take advantage of such a stage for a global recruitment fare.
“This, therefore, will offer a highly corporate and qualitative hospitality platform to promote tourism, business and investment climate as well as incentives,” he said.
