Super Eagles’ former Assistant Coach, Joseph Erico, has expressed satisfaction with the list of players invited by the team’s Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, for the match against Zambia on October 9. According to him, the list would aid the development of a strong national team.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday made public the list of players that will prosecute the first World Cup qualifier against the Chipolopolo in Ndola, Zambia. The latest invitee, Isaac Success, many thought should have been playing for the nation just as his former teammate,
Kelechi Iheanacho, the all conquering Golden Eaglets of 2013 at the Under-17 World Cup in United Arab Emirate.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, the former coach of the defunct Julius Berger of Lagos said there would be better understanding among the players because the players invited were the same set that featured against Tanzania in the last AFCON qualifier.

“The good thing is that the boys had the opportunity to play together Tanzania. That match was a very good platform for them to get to understand themselves and put up the chemistry that will lead to the build up of the crucial match,” he said.

On the inclusion of Success in the team, Erico said it would have been unfortunate if such a talent was left out of the team, especially at a period when the country cannot afford not to make use of her best legs.

“By all standard, the lad should have progressed to the senior national team, having played in both the Under-17 and Under-21 World Cups. I am glad he has been considered eventually. All I hope is for the team to do well against the Zambians,” he stated.
