The Savannah Conference won their second straight DStv Premier Basketball league All Star game at the weekend with a flamboyant display of long range shots, alley hoops and  high slam dunks to beat the Atlantic Conference 102 -66 points.

With the outstanding display by reigning All Star MVP Abubakar Usman’s 31 points off seven three points shot and Kano Pillars team mate, Ibrahim Yusuf’s 18 points, including four from behind the arc, the Savannah conference All Stars did not disappoint their fans, who came to cheer the team.

Despite parading the likes of legendary basketball player, Tunji Awojobi, who was limited to just nine points, Ben Uzoh (11 points) and William Ndoumbe (nine points), the Atlantic Conference All Stars were dominated in the second and final quarter (10-26), (16-30). The team, which put up a good start with a blast trailing by one (18-19) in the opening quarter, could not gain enough point to win the game.

At the end, 2014 DStv All Star most valuable player, Abubakar Usman, retained his MVP trophy, which fetched him a DStv Explora decoder, while magical Lagos Islander’s forward William Ndoumbe who put up a show in the Slam Dunk Contest took the Slam Dunk King’s crown with style. Mark Mentors’ Timothy Kwaor shoved off the stiff challenge of teammate Azuoma Dike and Sola Alayande (Lagos Islanders) to retain his three-point shooting contest trophy, which also earned him a DStv Explora Decoder .

Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) at the event also honoured some basketball legends for their contribution to the growth of the game. The Legends include Coach Alabi Adelanwa and Ganiyu Otenigbagbe, who contributed to develop the Dream, Hakeem Olajuwon, before he went on to the US to dominate the world of basketball.

Speaking after the event NBBF president, Tijani Umar, said the federation was delighted to be part of the event, as it would assist develop the sport in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, General Manager, Multichoice, Martin Mabutho, explained the major focus of the All Star game was to encourage youths to play basketball, assuring that the company would not relent in sponsoring the league.
