Sojurin wins Second Satek Squash Series
THE Second Satek Squash Series came to an end on Saturday at the O’Trafford Squash Club with Olumide Sojurin winning the Men’s category, while Michael John won the Under 18 boys category.
The series, which spanned two days, were played on a straight knockout basis, and produced some exciting action as the players tried to outdo each other in a quest to emerge champion.
Sojurin of Ikoyi Club, who defeated Mathew Iyere of Police College in a tense and captivating Men’s final to emerge champion, had to dig deep into his bag of tricks to stave off a determined iyere.
Iyere stormed out of the blocks taking the first game 11-5, but Olumide responded in kind by clinching the second game 11-5.
From then on, Olumide took the game by the scruff of the neck and finished off the tie winning the next two games 11-6, 14-12.
Sojurin thus went home with a trophy as well as N250, 000, while Iyere received a medal and N100, 000.
In the U-18 boys’ category, Michael John emerged champion but was taken the distance in an exciting and thrilling final by David Pratt.
